Gorge Country Media Makes Thanksgiving Possible for Hundreds of Families

November 13, 2022
Every year, Gorge Country Media and the Salvation Army host a free Thanksgiving meal for anyone in The Dalles. Last year, nearly 800 people showed up looking for a warm meal and a feeling of community. This year, we caught up with co-radio station owner and organizer of this annual event and what it’s like to feed so many good, honest people.

Codie Carpenter is the co-owner and traffic manager at Gorge Country Media, Inc. (Y102, 95.9 Star FM, KLCK 1400 and 98.1 FM). She’s also the guiding light behind the free Thanksgiving meal.

“Usually, we cook 40 turkeys. This year, we may need more help,” Carpenter said when asked how much food is needed to feed everyone who attends the event. “It’s a community meal hosted, in part, by the Salvation Army.”

Codie joined the board over a handful of years ago and has helped out ever since. To prep for the big community event, she and a team of volunteers cook for three days straight.

“Last year we made 36 bags of stuffing and used 5-gallon buckets to make the gravy. We serve a free meal to anywhere from 600 to 800 people with no questioned asked.”

Coastal is Proud to Help The Dalles Thanksgiving Event
This year, we are honored to help feed folks in The Dalles with a $1,000 donation to the Salvation Army and this worthwhile cause led by Codie and her team of volunteers.
