Homemade for the Holidays: Peppermint Candles

November 21, 2018

The perfect gift for neighbors, co-workers, and dear friends isn’t some last-minute gift you pick up at the store. It’s peppermint candles. All you need to create yours are a handful of supplies and some easy-to-follow directions.

What You’ll Need

  • Soy candle wax (1lb. of wax fills 4 small 4oz jars)
  • Peppermint oil
  • Peppermints or peppermint candies (crushed)
  • Several 4oz. mason jars
  • Natural candle wick
  • Ribbon

Directions

These directions will help you make one peppermint candle.

Start by gluing the candle wick into the center of your mason jar. Next, glue some décor on the inside of the jar. This can include whole pieces of peppermint candy. Pour a small amount of crushed peppermint into the bottom of the jar.

Melt the soy candle wax over a double boiler or in the microwave (follow package directions). We used a large Pyrex measuring cup for easy pouring.

Once the wax is melted, stir in your peppermint oil (15-20 drops).

While holding the candle wick in place with a clothespin, pour some of the peppermint wax into the mason jar. Now add a layer of crushed peppermint candies. Repeat the process to achieve the look you want. The wax should fill in around the crushed candies.

Leave the candlewick in place while the wax hardens overnight. Trim the wick. Then add your lid (if needed) and ribbon.
